2008 Summer Volunteer Information

Even though we are still buried under snow in the high country that hasn't stopped us from starting up summer programming on the Front Range. We are currently rock climbing and canoeing and need your help! If you are interested in volunteering with the NSCD this summer check the bottom of this page. As more programming starts we'll be adding plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy what promises to be a beautiful Colorado summer.

Also, you can access the summer volunteer application at www.nscd.org/volunteer/signup.htm.

Hope to see everyone this summer!

FAQ's of the Moment

With the snow conditions and whatnot we've had a lot of questions about clinics, among other things. Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions of the moment.

1. Are we going to ski/ride during clinics? Most certainly. Bring your gear because we spend as much time on the hill as we can.

2. When are clinics? You can access the winter calendar here: http://www.nscd.org/pdf/2007_2008_winter_calendar.pdf

Clinic check-in is between 8:15-9:15 am in the cafeteria in West Portal Station and they start promptly at 9:30am.

3. When do we get our jackets? Soon. Jackets were supposed to arrive before clinics however they are running behind schedule. We will distribute them as soon as we take possession.

More questions? Give us a call.

Thanks!

Welcome to the 2007-2008 Season!

Believe it or not we are skiing and riding up here at Winter Park. Clinics are off to a great start and we will be on the snow as much as possible. Ron, Rick and Liz are teaching the very first #1 skiers clinic of the season today. What a group!

Bring your gear and come on up to clinics. We are having a lot of fun and ready or not, here we go.

Let it snow!

Important Winter Information

A few things real quick...

Returning Volunteer Registration
Due to dwindling numbers at returning volunteer registration we are going to try something new this year. We are registering everyone by mail. Basically once you submit your application you will receive an e-mail confirmation with more details (I'm a little backed up with all the extra issues at the moment and will get those out soon). Sometime in mid to late September we will mail registration packets. Once you return your payment and signed forms we will mail your pass and then all you need to do is show up for your clinic(s).

But what about the jackets? We have new jackets this season however they won't show up until closer to the season. Returning volunteers will pick up their jackets at the end of their refresher clinic. I'll make coffee and bake cookies and we'll have a fun and social apres ski jacket check-out session.

Watch the blog and your e-mail for continuing information and reminders. Questions? Give me a call. 303.316.1546.

Clinic and Winter Programs Calendar
You can see your refresher clinics as well as program dates. We won't have Extended Stay group dates available until some time in November when all the groups have confirmed.

You can find the calendar here: http://www.nscd.org/pdf/2007_2008_winter_calendar.pdf

What's up with the Website???

Why can't I get my volunteer application to go through???

Unfortunately, the website is undergoing some unscheduled maintenance and the application will be unavailable for a while. How long exactly? No one really knows with any certainty. I will send out an e-mail, as well as post a blog, when everything is functional again.

I understand it is frustrating and I appreciate your patience while we get this resolved. In the mean time, just sit tight and I'll send the all clear as soon as it is working. We have plenty of time before the season starts and there's no reason to feel rushed.

Please see the next post for more important information about this upcoming winter.

Thanks-
Ash

Welcome to the NSCD Volunteer Blog!

Welcome everyone!

The Volunteer Office is very excited to launch the new NSCD Volunteer Blog. The goal with this page is to communicate with all our volunteers in real time. You will always know what's happening at the NSCD, when we need volunteers, and of course the fun extras. Pictures. Inspiring stories. Video!

More than anything else, we hope this site will help keep everyone in the loop, whether you volunteer once a year or 20 times a year.

A quick tour of the blog...

-Volunteer Opportunities. On the upper right hand of the page are upcoming volunteer opportunities at a glance. You can find full details on the bottom of the page under the make-up board. The needs will always be in real time, meaning at 6pm the night before you will know if we still need help or not the next day.

-Polls. We are very excited about this feature because of the fun potential. You never know what we might ask and this way everyone can see the results.

-Videos. The NSCD Competition Center has a few videos on You Tube as does our National Programs division. It's a great way to see what other NSCD departments are up to!

-Archives. As we continue to add information to the site we will tag each post with labels that will make them easier to find down the road.

That's our blog at a quick glance. As it grows we welcome ideas and suggestions for improvement. Enjoy and visit often!
